Vision Insurance Plans
I would like to think most of us take the time to have our health check-ups, we schedule our dental cleanings, we even have our hair trimmed and roots touched up every couple of months. We want to take care of ourselves. What about our eyes? Eyesight is one of our most important senses. One might question whether or not they need vision insurance, let’s “see.â€
Vision insurance can help defray the out of pocket cost of eye exams, frames, lenses and contacts. In some cases it can also help with the cost of laser vision correction. You will usually be responsible for paying a monthly premium and there are usually co-pays associated with the benefit. If you or your dependents rely on glasses or contacts to help them see, this benefit would be worth looking into.
It is important to have routine eye exams not only if you have vision problems but for other health reasons.
According to WebMD your eyes can say a lot about your health. Dr. Andrew Iwach, MD, an associate clinical professor of ophthalmology, was quoted as saying “They’re the only place in the body where you can see a bare nerve, a bare artery, and a bare vein without doing any cutting. The disease processes we see occurring in the eye are probably occurring in the rest of the body.â€
There are a lot of diseases that can have ocular manifestations, some are: diabetes, cardiovascular disease, aneurysms, HIV, cancer, and other rare hereditary diseases.
Although choosing vision insurance is an individual decision, it can be a valuable benefit for you and your family.
